·         The first step in the procedure is to take an X-ray to determine signs of infection in the surrounding bone. Local anaesthesia is then given to numb the infected tooth and the surrounding area.

·         Next, an access will then be drilled into the tooth. The pulp along with  the infective micro-organisms,decayed nerve tissue and debris is removed from the tooth. The cleaning out process is accomplished using root canal files. A series of these files of increasing diameter are each subsequently used to work down the full length of the tooth to scrape the root canals.

·         Once the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, it is sealed with a bio-compatible material like gutta percha.

·         The final step involves further restoration of the tooth. Tooth that requires root canal treatment is usually, extensively decayed ,therefore, a crown, post & core needs to be placed on the tooth to prevent it from fracture and restore it to full function.

How Painful Is a Root Canal?

Root canal procedures have the reputation of being painful. Actually, root canal treatment is always carried out under the effect of anaesthesia and therefore, does not cause any discomfort to the patient.

Gone are the days when people used to have gold & silver teeth. With the latest advancements in dentistry, you can have fillings which cannot be distinguished  from your natural teeth.

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. The decayed tooth substance is removed, affected area is thoroughly cleaned, and then the cleaned out cavity is filled with a filling material.
